Musgrave: adapting in a crisis

The Association was delighted to have David Codd, Group Transformation Director at Musgrave, as our speaker for a webinar in July.

The Covid-19 crisis has brought the importance of food retailers in our lives to the fore like never before, and none more so than Musgrave. With over 1,450 stores, and brands including Supervalu, Centra, Donnybrook Fair and others, the Group feeds 1 in 3 people on the island of Ireland.

David shared his unique perspective on how the company has responded to the crisis, with insights into how its business model has adapted and how the strategic decisions made have served the business in the crisis … and are likely to impact on its strategy going forward. He enlightened us on the importance in a crisis of cash management, the value of a diversified business, the advantage of a franchise business model and give his thoughts on the future of retail.

David has been with Musgrave since 2005. Previously Chief Information Officer, he has also held numerous roles with Musgrave Retail Partners GB in the UK, among them Finance Director and Head of IT. As Integration Programme Manager, he managed the integration of Superquinn into Musgrave following its acquisition in 2011. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, he holds an MSc in Information Systems from DCU.
